The M5Stack Gesture Unit enables touch-free interaction for lighting controls, robots, games, exhibits, appliances, and accessibility prototypes. Its PAJ7620U2 infrared optical sensor recognizes nine movements—up, down, left, right, forward, backward, clockwise, counterclockwise, and wave—and reports them through I2C address 0x73. Typical recognition occurs at approximately 5–15 cm. Reliable control depends on sensor orientation, hand speed, distance, ambient light, reflective surroundings, enclosure design, cooldown timing, and application confirmation.
