M5Stack GP8413 Dual-Channel I2C DAC Unit
The M5Stack DAC2 Unit converts digital commands into two independent analog voltage outputs. Built around the GP8413, it provides 15-bit resolution and supports 0–5V or 0–10V output ranges for embedded control, signal generation, LED dimming, power-supply references, and industrial analog interfaces.
The host communicates through I2C. Hardware address selection supports addresses from 0x58 to 0x65, with 0x59 as the default. This allows up to eight devices to share a bus for as many as 16 analog output channels when the full system is planned correctly.
Generate Two Independent Analog Voltage Outputs
Use each channel for a separate control or reference signal. The product specification lists output voltage error below 0.2% and linearity error of 0.01%, but final system accuracy also depends on load impedance, supply quality, wiring, calibration, temperature, grounding, and downstream equipment.
Selectable 0–5V or 0–10V Range
Choose the output range according to the receiving equipment. Confirm the input limits and common-ground requirements of the connected controller, inverter, dimmer, power supply, or analog interface before applying a signal.
Multiple I2C Addresses for Expansion
Address selection through A2/A1/A0 supports multi-device expansion. Before adding several units, check bus pull-ups, cable length, address configuration, power budget, and startup behavior so outputs do not enter an unintended state.
Short-Circuit Protection Is Not Complete System Protection
The unit includes output short-circuit protection, but the surrounding system still needs appropriate wiring, current limits, grounding, transient protection, and fail-safe behavior. For safety-critical motion or process control, use independently rated protective controls.
Technical setup details are available in the M5Stack DAC2 documentation.
Q: How many analog outputs are available?
A: Two independent channels.
Q: Which output ranges are supported?
A: 0–5V and 0–10V.
Q: What is the default I2C address?
A: 0x59.
Q: Can multiple units share the same I2C bus?
A: Yes. Address selection from 0x58 to 0x65 supports up to eight devices when the bus is designed correctly.
Q: Does it include short-circuit protection?
A: Yes, output short-circuit protection is listed in the product specification.
Q: Does 15-bit resolution guarantee 15-bit absolute accuracy?
A: No. Final accuracy also depends on load, supply quality, wiring, calibration, temperature, grounding, and downstream equipment.
