Key Features

  • SPM1423 digital MEMS microphone
  • PDM clock and data interface
  • Typical sensitivity of -22 dBFS
  • Typical SNR of 61.4 dB A-weighted
  • Operating current reference of approximately 600 µA

The M5Stack Mini PDM Unit captures digital audio for sound-event detection, spectrum analysis, voice interfaces, data logging, and wearable prototypes. Its SPM1423 MEMS microphone outputs a pulse-density-modulated bitstream through clock and data lines, avoiding a long analog microphone path. A compatible host must generate the PDM clock and decimate the stream into PCM samples. Useful recordings depend on clock configuration, filtering, buffer management, acoustic-port placement, enclosure design, vibration isolation, calibration, and privacy requirements.

Mini PDM Unit: Core Functions and Control

Capture Sound with the SPM1423 MEMS Microphone

The digital microphone converts acoustic pressure into a PDM bitstream for a host with a compatible PDM or I2S receive path.

Convert PDM Data into PCM Audio

The host supplies the clock, collects the one-bit stream, and applies decimation and filtering to generate conventional samples.

Design the Acoustic Port Carefully

The microphone opening must remain unobstructed because airflow, vibration, cavities, and nearby speakers affect the signal.

Mini PDM Unit Applications

  • Digital audio recording prototypes
  • Sound-event detection
  • Spectrum and frequency analysis
  • Wearable voice interfaces
  • Machine-noise experiments

How to Integrate the Mini PDM Unit

  1. Connect the cable to host pins supporting PDM or compatible I2S reception.
  2. Configure clock, decimation, sample rate, channel mapping, and buffers.
  3. Keep the acoustic opening clear and isolate it from airflow and vibration.
  4. Record a known source and verify level, clipping margin, and noise floor.
  5. Handle buffer overruns, clock loss, storage limits, and privacy requirements.

Mini PDM Unit Deployment Notes

  • The output is a PDM bitstream, not an analog voltage.
  • A compatible peripheral or software pipeline must convert PDM to PCM.
  • Enclosure acoustics, airflow, vibration, and mounting affect recordings.
  • Absolute sound-pressure measurements require calibration.
  • Audio recording may be subject to privacy and consent laws.

How can I confirm product compatibility?

Check the product specifications, operating voltage, communication interface, dimensions, connector type, and software requirements before ordering. Compatibility may also depend on your controller, operating system, development framework, library version, and project wiring.

If you are unsure, contact us before purchasing and include your controller model, intended application, power source, and any other hardware you plan to use. We will help you identify the most suitable option, but we cannot guarantee that every product will work with every platform or project.

Does the product come with a warranty?

Warranty coverage may vary by product and manufacturer. If your order arrives damaged, incomplete, or appears to have a manufacturing defect, contact us as soon as possible with your order number, product model, and clear photos or videos of the issue.

Our team will review the information and provide the appropriate next step according to the applicable product and after-sales policy. Damage caused by incorrect wiring, unsuitable voltage, unauthorized modification, soldering, misuse, or operation outside the documented specifications may not be covered.

How long does shipping take?

LogicBoundless provides worldwide shipping, with primary service coverage across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Orders are generally fulfilled from Shenzhen, China, and tracking information is provided after dispatch.

Processing and delivery times depend on product availability, destination, customs clearance, and the selected shipping service. Please review the Shipping Information page for the latest estimated delivery times and shipping conditions.

What is your return policy?

Eligible products may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Returned items must be unused, unsoldered, unmodified, and kept in their original condition with all packaging, cables, accessories, manuals, and included components.

Please contact support@logicboundless.com before sending anything back. Returns made without prior approval may not be accepted. Original shipping charges are generally non-refundable unless the return is caused by a verified product defect or fulfillment error.

Can you help if I have a technical problem?

Yes. LogicBoundless provides practical technical guidance for product setup, wiring, power, communication, code, and configuration issues.

To help us understand the problem efficiently, please provide your controller model, wiring photos, power source, code, library or firmware versions, expected behavior, and complete error messages. We cannot promise that every component will work in every system, but we will help you identify the likely cause and the next practical troubleshooting step.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order. We will try to assist before the order enters processing or is handed to the shipping carrier.

Once an order has been packed or dispatched, it may no longer be possible to change the products, delivery address, or shipping method. In that case, the standard return process may apply after delivery.
