M5Stack MQTT PoE Unit combines W5500 Ethernet communication, an RJ45 10/100M port, PoE power input, and UART AT-command control in one compact module. It is designed for embedded nodes that need a stable wired network path without adding a separate Ethernet board and local DC power supply at the endpoint.
The module connects to a host controller through UART, with a default 9600 bps 8N1 configuration. Network and MQTT functions are handled through AT commands, so the main controller can focus on sensors, logic, and application behavior. The unit supports up to four MQTT topic subscriptions and is useful when a m5stack mqtt example needs a repeatable wired transport instead of Wi-Fi.
The integrated PoE stage accepts DC 37–57V from compatible PoE infrastructure and provides up to 1.2A at 5V, or 6W, for the local system. This can reduce cable count at cameras, monitoring panels, controllers, and distributed sensor nodes because network communication and power travel through the Ethernet installation. Compared with the non-PoE Unit MQTT, this version adds PoE power capability.
The embedded W5500 and adaptive RJ45 port make m5stack ethernet integration practical for installations where radio coverage is unreliable, wireless access is restricted, or long-running wired connectivity is preferred. The module can fit industrial automation, security monitoring, automatic measurement systems, equipment telemetry, and gateway-connected data collection.
This unit supports MQTT communication but does not support MQTTS. For networks that require TLS-encrypted broker connections, place the device behind an appropriate secure gateway or choose hardware with native encrypted MQTT support. Confirm broker requirements before deployment rather than treating MQTT and MQTTS as interchangeable.
Before commissioning, verify PoE voltage compatibility, confirm the available 5V load budget, configure UART parameters, and test broker address, credentials, topic structure, and reconnect behavior. For m5stack w5500 projects, also validate switch configuration, DHCP or static IP planning, and cable quality under actual installation conditions.
