Key Features

  • MLX90614ESF-AAA infrared sensor
  • Non-contact object and ambient temperature
  • Object range reference of -70 to 380 °C
  • Wide 90° field of view
  • I2C communication at address 0x5A

The M5Stack NCIR Unit measures non-contact surface temperature for equipment monitoring, thermal experiments, hot-object checks, environmental logging, and interactive systems. Its MLX90614ESF-AAA infrared sensor reports object and local ambient temperature over I2C address 0x5A with a wide 90° field of view. The object result represents an average across the viewed area rather than a single point. Useful accuracy depends on emissivity, distance, reflective surroundings, airflow, thermal stability, and optical cleanliness.

NCIR Unit: Core Functions and Control

Read Object and Ambient Temperature

The MLX90614 provides separate digital values for the viewed surface and the sensor’s local ambient temperature.

Understand the Wide 90° Field of View

The target must fill enough of the viewing cone to prevent backgrounds or nearby surfaces from dominating the result.

Account for Emissivity and Reflections

Polished metal, glass, and reflective coatings can behave differently from dark matte targets and require application-specific validation.

NCIR Unit Applications

  • Equipment surface-temperature monitoring
  • Motor and electrical-cabinet trending
  • Hot-object and process checks
  • Thermal presence experiments
  • Laboratory infrared measurement

How to Integrate the NCIR Unit

  1. Mount the sensor with an unobstructed view and keep the optical opening clean.
  2. Connect it to an I2C port and confirm that address 0x5A is available.
  3. Allow the sensor and enclosure to reach thermal stability.
  4. Test the actual target at the intended distance and angle against a suitable reference.
  5. Log object and ambient temperature and use persistence before alarms.

NCIR Unit Deployment Notes

  • The 90° field of view averages a broad area.
  • Emissivity, reflective backgrounds, angle, airflow, and enclosure heat affect readings.
  • Infrared sensing reports surface temperature, not internal or core temperature.
  • The full range does not provide identical accuracy under every condition.
  • This unit is not a certified medical thermometer or life-safety sensor.

How can I confirm product compatibility?

Check the product specifications, operating voltage, communication interface, dimensions, connector type, and software requirements before ordering. Compatibility may also depend on your controller, operating system, development framework, library version, and project wiring.

If you are unsure, contact us before purchasing and include your controller model, intended application, power source, and any other hardware you plan to use. We will help you identify the most suitable option, but we cannot guarantee that every product will work with every platform or project.

Does the product come with a warranty?

Warranty coverage may vary by product and manufacturer. If your order arrives damaged, incomplete, or appears to have a manufacturing defect, contact us as soon as possible with your order number, product model, and clear photos or videos of the issue.

Our team will review the information and provide the appropriate next step according to the applicable product and after-sales policy. Damage caused by incorrect wiring, unsuitable voltage, unauthorized modification, soldering, misuse, or operation outside the documented specifications may not be covered.

How long does shipping take?

LogicBoundless provides worldwide shipping, with primary service coverage across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Orders are generally fulfilled from Shenzhen, China, and tracking information is provided after dispatch.

Processing and delivery times depend on product availability, destination, customs clearance, and the selected shipping service. Please review the Shipping Information page for the latest estimated delivery times and shipping conditions.

What is your return policy?

Eligible products may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Returned items must be unused, unsoldered, unmodified, and kept in their original condition with all packaging, cables, accessories, manuals, and included components.

Please contact support@logicboundless.com before sending anything back. Returns made without prior approval may not be accepted. Original shipping charges are generally non-refundable unless the return is caused by a verified product defect or fulfillment error.

Can you help if I have a technical problem?

Yes. LogicBoundless provides practical technical guidance for product setup, wiring, power, communication, code, and configuration issues.

To help us understand the problem efficiently, please provide your controller model, wiring photos, power source, code, library or firmware versions, expected behavior, and complete error messages. We cannot promise that every component will work in every system, but we will help you identify the likely cause and the next practical troubleshooting step.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order. We will try to assist before the order enters processing or is handed to the shipping carrier.

Once an order has been packed or dispatched, it may no longer be possible to change the products, delivery address, or shipping method. In that case, the standard return process may apply after delivery.
