The M5Stack PaHub v2.1 expands one host I2C connection into six software-selectable Grove channels for sensor arrays, test fixtures, modular systems, and devices with duplicate I2C addresses. Its PCA9548AP multiplexer allows identical-address peripherals to coexist when they are placed on separate channels and selected independently. A DIP switch sets the hub address from 0x70 to 0x77, enabling multiple hubs on one upstream bus. Reliable systems still require power budgeting, pull-up analysis, cable-length control, capacitance management, and disciplined channel selection.

How to Integrate the PaHub v2.1

  1. With power removed, set the DIP switch to an unused address from 0x70 to 0x77.
  2. Connect the host to the input and attach peripherals to intended channels.
  3. Select the required branch before communicating with the device at its normal address.
  4. Tag data with the channel number and change branches before accessing duplicate-address devices.
  5. Verify total current, pull-ups, cable length, capacitance, and recovery behavior.

PaHub v2.1 Deployment Notes

  • The hub multiplexes branches; it does not increase bus speed or supply unlimited power.
  • Duplicate-address devices still conflict if their channels are enabled simultaneously.
  • Excessive pull-ups, cable length, capacitance, or voltage drop can cause instability.
  • Cascading hubs adds software state and troubleshooting complexity.
  • Change DIP-switch settings only while power is off.
