M5Stack motor control projects often need more than a basic driver. RollerCAN Lite integrates a D3504 200KV brushless motor, DRV8311 driver, magnetic encoder feedback, STM32G431 controller, and FOC closed-loop control in one compact motion unit. It supports current, speed, and position control loops for robotics, automated mechanisms, and repeatable motion experiments.
The unit accepts 6–16V through the CAN power interface or 5V through Grove. Without forced cooling, the specified maximum continuous phase current is 0.5A; short operation can reach 1A. Keep the supply at or below 16V. This Lite version does not include a slip ring, so it suits mechanisms where continuous unlimited cable rotation is not required.
For distributed m5stack can bus systems, two XT30 CAN interfaces support power and communication routing between nodes. I2C control is also available at address 0x64. This gives you a practical choice between a multi-node CAN architecture and direct I2C integration with an M5Stack host.
The TLI5012BE1000 angle sensor provides rotor position feedback for closed-loop behavior. In absolute position mode, 36000 position units correspond approximately to 360°. Mechanical installation and encoder alignment can introduce about 2° of error, so applications that depend on tight absolute alignment should calibrate the assembled mechanism.
A 0.66-inch 64 × 48 OLED, two WS2812-2020 RGB LEDs, and function buttons support local status indication and interaction. SWD and SWO interfaces are available for lower-level debugging. The STM32G431CBU6 runs at up to 170MHz with 128KB Flash and 32KB SRAM.
| Model | Communication | Slip Ring | Power LED | Color |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RollerCAN | CAN / I2C | Yes | Blue | Black |
| RollerCAN Lite | CAN / I2C | No | None | Black |
| Roller485 | RS485 / I2C | Yes | Green | Gray |
| Roller485 Lite | RS485 / I2C | No | None | Gray |
Use RollerCAN Lite for compact CAN/I2C motion nodes where a slip ring is unnecessary. Choose a slip-ring version when continuous mechanical rotation would otherwise twist wiring.
Setup details are available in the RollerCAN Lite technical documentation.
