M5Stack RS485 Roller485 integrates a D3504 200KV brushless motor, DRV8311 driver, TLI5012BE1000 magnetic angle sensor, STM32G431 controller, and FOC closed-loop control into one motion unit. It supports current, speed, and position control loops for robot joints, rotating mechanisms, automated equipment, and distributed motion systems.
The motor can be powered at 6–16V through PWR485 or at 5V through Grove. The specified maximum continuous phase current is 0.5A without forced cooling, with up to 1A for short periods. Keep the supply at or below 16V and validate acceleration, load, current, and temperature in the complete mechanism rather than sizing from no-load behavior.
The PWR485 interface combines the unit with an m5stack rs485 control architecture, while two I2C connections are available at address 0x64. RS485 fits distributed nodes across a machine where a differential bus is preferred. I2C supports local integration with a nearby controller or expansion device inside a compact assembly.
The STM32G431CBU6 runs at up to 170MHz with 128KB Flash and 32KB SRAM. Magnetic encoder feedback supports current, speed, and position regulation. In absolute position mode, 36000 position units correspond approximately to 360°. Mechanical installation and encoder alignment can introduce about 2° of error, so applications that need accurate absolute alignment should calibrate the assembled mechanism.
The full Roller485 includes a slip ring that keeps the top Grove expansion path connected while the rotating section turns. The slip-ring Grove output is specified at DC 5V / 300mA. This is useful when a sensor, light, or other compatible module must remain electrically connected on the rotating side without twisting a fixed cable. Confirm the connected expansion load stays within the stated output capability.
| Feature | Roller485 | Roller485 Lite |
|---|---|---|
| Communication | RS485 / I2C | RS485 / I2C |
| Slip Ring | Yes | No |
| Rotating Grove Expansion | Yes, 5V / 300mA stated output | No |
| Top LEGO Expansion Interface | Yes | No |

Choose Roller485 when continuous rotation needs electrical pass-through and top expansion. Choose Roller485 Lite when a smaller no-slip-ring actuator is sufficient.
A 0.66-inch 64 × 48 OLED, two WS2812-2020 RGB LEDs, and local controls provide status and interaction. The unit operates from 0–40°C under the stated specification and is rated at 48dB noise under the product's test condition. SWD and SWO access supports development and debugging.
Technical setup details are available in the M5Stack Roller485 documentation.
