The M5Stack ToF4M Unit measures object distance for robot obstacle detection, level monitoring, positioning, parking aids, and interactive installations. Its VL53L1X Time-of-Flight sensor reports millimeter-scale data from approximately 4 cm to 4 m through I2C address 0x29. A configurable field of view helps focus on a smaller target area. Actual range and stability depend on timing budget, target reflectivity, ambient infrared light, optical cleanliness, geometry, and host-side filtering.
The VL53L1X calculates distance from infrared light travel time and returns digital range data for stationary or moving targets.
