The M5Stack Glass Unit adds a 1.51-inch transparent OLED to embedded products that need information to appear over a see-through panel. The module uses an STM32F030F4P6 controller with an SSD1309 display solution and communicates with the host through I2C at address 0x3D.
The panel provides 128 × 64 total pixels, with a 128 × 56 transparent display area. The monochrome blue display can overlay text, icons, status data, or simple graphics while keeping the background visible through the glass. This makes the unit useful for appliance interfaces, transparent status windows, instrument panels, interactive displays, and design prototypes.
The host sends display commands over I2C instead of driving the OLED timing directly. This reduces the integration burden on the main controller and keeps the interface compatible with common embedded workflows. Before combining the unit with other I2C peripherals, check address conflicts and total bus loading.
Two input buttons and one buzzer are integrated into the unit. They can support menu navigation, confirmation actions, alerts, or local interaction without adding separate interface boards. Define button behavior consistently and avoid relying on the buzzer alone for critical warnings.
The active display area is 35.05 × 18mm and the glass panel is 42.04 × 27.22mm. Place high-value information where the background will not reduce readability. Contrast varies with ambient light and the scene behind the panel, so test fonts, icon weight, viewing distance, and enclosure lighting under the real installation conditions.
A transparent OLED works best when the product design intentionally uses the visible background. It can show status over a mechanism, sensor window, appliance surface, or decorative element. For dense menus or high-information dashboards, a conventional opaque display may provide better readability.
