The m5stack rgb led Neco Unit is a cat-ear-shaped lighting panel built with 35 WS2812C-2020 addressable RGB LEDs. It is designed for compact decorative lighting, interactive installations, status displays, and animated effects where a standard LED strip does not match the required shape or mechanical presentation.
Two 4-pin Grove ports let the unit connect to an M5Stack host and continue the signal path to additional Neco units. The serial cascade design makes it practical to create mirrored pairs, multi-panel arrangements, costume lighting, stage accents, or custom enclosures without routing every panel back to a separate host port.
Each WS2812C-2020 LED supports 256 brightness levels per color channel and a combined palette of 16,777,216 colors. Animation behavior is defined in firmware, so you can build static colors, breathing effects, chases, alerts, audio-reactive patterns, or application-specific indicators.
A built-in tactile button can be read by the host to switch effects, change operating modes, trigger an animation, or acknowledge an alert. This makes the panel more useful for standalone interactive displays than a passive light-only accessory.
Each LED is specified at approximately 5mA, and the product guidance recommends avoiding continuous full illumination for long periods. A brightness setting around 20 is recommended as a practical starting point. For long animations or enclosed installations, test current draw and temperature under the actual pattern because all-white and high-brightness effects create a different load from sparse animations.
The package contains two Neco panels, a 20cm Grove cable, a 1m Grove cable, and two plastic-coated iron wires. That makes paired or cascaded layouts possible without purchasing a second panel separately.
The module is suitable for home decoration, party lighting, stage performance, interactive props, wearable prototypes, expressive robot indicators, and visual alerts. For larger arrays, confirm host timing, power distribution, cable length, and the number of cascaded LEDs before final installation.
Technical setup details are available in the M5Stack Neco Unit documentation.
